Here are
pictures of my trip on June 17 with Auburn University
researchers. They took samples of fins from several
species of fish throughout the Mobile Bay. They will determine
if there is any harmful bacteria present. The crew was Matt
Lewis, Andrea Larsen and Zhen Tao.
Here is a
brief summary
from Matt Lewis of what the researchers we were doing,
"It is know that punctures
from bait shrimp or sport fish dorsal fins can lead to a
life-threatening disease from a bacterial infection by Vibrio
vulnificus. We were collecting fin clips from commonly caught
sport fish to enumerate (or count) how many Vibrio vulnificus
organisms are on the surface of the fins. This will tell us how
dangerous getting "finned" could be to someone at risk for this
infection."
The researchers
clipped two pieces from each fish's dorsal fin.
The fin clips were put in a tube for
analysis later.
Andrea stayed
bowed up all morning
Here's Matt with the fish of the
day- a 26" speckled trout.
Zhen is from
China- he enjoyed all of the fish he caught including this nice
fat trout.

Here are pictures of my trip on February
6 with Ricky "the Bruiser" Carlisle. Despite howling winds and
very muddy water, we caught some very nice redfish.
"the Bruiser" with this nice 27+" red.
Fortunately redfish have very keen sense of smell- that's the
only way that they could feed in water this muddy.
